The 2nd Tshwane Women in Sports Awards is returning, and, on
Monday 22nd November, The Tshwane Sports Council (Confederation) hosted the official
launch which was held at the HPC (High Performance Centre), at the University of Pretoria.
The Tshwane Women in Sports Awards which will take place on 16 February 2022, will give
recognition to women and girls achievers of sport in Tshwane. It will recognise all the hard
work and commitment of the athletes participation in sports, on and off the field and more
specifically the development of sport on grassroots level as well as management of sport
within club and federation structures, not just in Tshwane but South Africa and the globe as a
whole.
As we all know the sport world was forced to not only postpone events but cancel many events
due to the COVID-19 pandemic which threatened the momentum gained on matters such as
gender parity which raised awareness on women’s participation and leadership in sport, equal
pay, safeguarding and incentives for women and girls to participate. And these are just some
of the reasons why we feel it necessary to uplift our women in sport, ensuring that their
importance and value are recognized. And in doing so, TSC publicly announced the official
nomination categories where we will see our athletes honoured.
With 20 award categories for consideration and nomination, TSC, ÇOT and GSC will award big
achievers within Tshwane for their incredible accomplishments.
We, (TSC) are excited to be able to host this prestigious event says Mr Winston Meyer,
President of Tshwane Sports Confederation. The women and girls in Tshwane are the force
behind the building of resilient communities within in our borders, he continues. Backed by
Spar and the HPC and sanctioned by CoT and GSC, let’s empower them through sports as a
powerful tool to challenge the gender stereotypes, to regain ownership of their bodies, rebuild
their lives after trauma, further develop skills that are transferable to the work environment and
find a safe meaning of purpose with the ability to express their talent and passion freely.
TSC is fiercely committed to Spearheading Sports Excellence. As we continue to build a
consistent, solid Confederation and platform to connect with, support and build the sporting
community in Tshwane, while celebrating and deepening our relationships with brands such as
Spar and the HPC we officially invite nominations from qualifying and eligible athletes, media,
sponsors, management and the public to come forward.
Nominations are open until January 22 2022. For the full list of nomination categories and to
