Madiba’s legacy celebrated with a virtual tutoring initiative to help Matrics
succeed despite the pandemic

The emergence of the COVID 19 global pandemic has created a public health
crisis that has negatively impacted schools and learning systems across South
Africa.
This has intensified the level of pressure faced by thousands of matriculants
across the country who hope to successfully complete their final year of high
school.
This Mandela month Foonda has decided to step in by helping to provide extra
support to matric learners through Madiba Sessions, a virtual tutoring program
aimed at connecting learners with tutors free of charge.
The initiative was made possible through a partnership between Foonda and
the following tutoring agencies: We R Tutors, Triple Lotus, Superprof and
WeSolve4X as well as a number of independent tutors.
“The aim of this initiative is to give learners a chance to have access to
additional support through a free 67-minute tutoring session with a suitable
tutor between the 18th and 31st of July, we will also be providing access to a
database that will be continuously updated with free study resources that
students can make use of for the remainder of the year,” says Foonda founder
Vuyo Pakade.
Through Foonda, learners will be able to sign up and be connected to the
relevant tutors free of charge. In this way, we are using technology effectively
to help alleviate the anxieties and pressures associated with having to study
during a pandemic.
“We at Foonda really believe in Nelson Mandela’s insightful words that
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the
world.” In all we do we want to ensure that every student’s right to access
information and education is protected,” Pakade said.
Foonda wishes the Matric class of 2020 all the best going forward and
encourages learners to sign up and make use of this wonderful opportunity.
